Clary Sage

$ 11.00

This honey varietal derived primarily from clary sage (Salvia sclarea) nectar was harvested in late June or early July from a Kiger Island apiary near Corvallis, OR. It has a floral, resinous flavor with a unique nut brittle finish. It is available in 8 oz (BPA-free) plastic squeeze bottles and 22 oz glass jars.

The Kiger Island apiary is located on an island formed by the Booneville Slough and the Willamette River just south of Corvallis, OR. Kiger Island is locally renown for its fertile soil and agricultural productivity. Several family farms have been located in the area for generations, growing a variety of specialty crops including ginseng, kiwis, hazelnuts, grain, pumpkins, blueberries, alfalfa, mint, grass seed, and vegetable seed. The clary sage grower, Mike Hathaway, is a fourth generation farmer in the area.

Clary sage (Salvia sclarea) is a perennial herb with purple or white flowers grown for seed in the Willamette Valley. Essential oils and resins distilled from the leaves and stems of the plant are often used in perfumes or for herbal and medicinal purposes.

Honey is never heated over natural hive temperatures, and we only filter it minimally, so it may include pollen, small wax particles, and the occasional bee bit. All natural honey will solidify eventually. To liquify, place the jar in a bowl of warm (not boiling) water. Our honeys are never flavored or infused with added ingredients. The varietal names indicate the primary nectar source plants the bees were foraging on at the time of honey production.
